Vedanthangal 2012

It's been a while since my last post on any of my blogs. So i thought let's have a bit of eye-candy with what nature offers us in her beautiful ways.

Earlier this year, a friend and i had gone out to one of the well-known bird sanctuaries near Chennai - Vedanthangal. It's known to be home to quite a few species of migratory birds. You can read more about the boring stuff here ... or here.

So here's a sneak peek at some of the shots we got out of day spent there...

Some wild parrots we found just outside the sanctuary.

Another couple of birds en route...not sure what birds these were...

This is their nesting area. Couldn't get any nest from our various standpoints.

This is the serenity of the place during early morning hours...yes, this is serenity in comparison to how it gets later in the day!

Is that a plane? Is that superman?? No...it's a bird! :P

A painted stork playing hide-n-seek with me.

Some other species to offer variety!

As majestic as a pelican can get.

One will notice how vast this place is in the above pic...with the waters running deep in to what i believe is an estuary.

I think this is a spoon bill...but i could be wrong.

I love how the early hours left a light mist in the air that made this above landscape so mystical yet beautiful.

This is the tallest standpoint one can rise to, and enjoy the entirety of the place. As always, lovers and wannabe casanovas leave their territory markings behind.

This was a little later in the day.

This large shrub/tree was where quite a few pelicans, storks, spoonbills, etc had their nests. If you look closer, you may find a few young.

This is not what you might think it is...
This is how the young are fed! :P

If you ever get the chance to, spend a day here...leave the busy, noisy, techy world behind and experience a tip of the natural outdoors.

WARNING: This is not a place for the adventurous, there's hardly any action here...not accounting that of the birds.
